Diff Trans fluid?
Alright so i got 10 bottles(1qt) of Castrol syntec gear oil. Sae 75w-90.
According to 4crawlers webside,
"Manual Transmission GL-4/5, 75W90 22R: 4.1 qt. 22RE: 3.2 qt."
"Differential Hypoid GL-5, 80W90"
My one friend thats a tech said i can just use the same oil on both and said it wouldnt make that big of a difference.
But, i was reading on 4crawlers website and...
"# GL4 rating, I find MT-90 makes the tranny run quieter than MTL and it shifts just as smooth.
# You want to avoid running a GL5 oil in the transmission. The EP additives in a GL5 oil can attack the brass synchro rings on transmissions not rated for GL5 oil (the Toyota transmissions are rated GL4/GL5) and they can make the oil too slippery for proper synchro operation (shifting will feel sluggish - and this does apply to Toyota transmissions). "
Now, on the castrol syntec bottle it says gl-5 gear oil... so should i just run it in my diffs?
Anyone else run just gl5 in their trans?

I've been running Royal Purple "Max Gear" gear oil for years now with no issues and my trans shifts super smooth. I use it in both diffs and transfer case too. I just followed what my manual said for my 91'...
Manual Transmission with 4WD – Model # W56. 3.2 qts. API GL – 4 or GL – 5.
SAE 75W – 90 or 80W – 90.
From their website = "Max-Gear is recommended for use in truck, motor home / RV, and automotive front or rear differentials, manual transmissions, and lower gear units of marine engines that specify use of an API GL-5 or GL-4 fluid. All viscosities of Max-Gear are formulated with hypoid friction modifiers necessary for use in clutch or cone type differentials. No additional additives are necessary."

I've been dumping Lucas in lately and have been happy with it. I need to change out the trans fluid and I think I'm going to 50-50 it in the pickup. So far it's been nice in the diff's, although I just topped them off with it.
