It died.. Now i must fix it

Well maybe some of you guys read my other posts about me hydrolocking my engine I was left with the option of putting a stock 3.0 in my baby cause that would be homo.. doing a 3.4 swap which i don't have the funds for but i came upon a company most of you probably know about called D.O.A they sell some pretty sweet stuff for the 3.0 for what i find to be a reasonable price.. has anyone ever dealt with these guys.. how are their products? how is their service? i'm quite interested.. I know everyone is probably just gonna say DO A 3.4 SWAP but look.. thats going to be like 2 grand or more to do it right and i don't feel like fiddle farting around with a bunch of wires and what not.. give me some insight.. just a little more power would be awesome

the 3.4 will be better in long run.. More reliable, more power, and..... BETTER GAS MILEAGE!!! so in a way.. you get your money back. Good luck any way you go.

good gas mileage is a very poor way of mking up for the cost of an engine. It woud take a WHILE to make up for the cost.

i've done a ton of research... But i've never read about anyone sending their heads to DOA and buying their cams.. they also have a larger throttle body. the only weak point of the 3.0 is the head gaskets.. which i'll make sure i get the good ones from yota. i also plan on putting downey headers on it too before i swing it back in... I think doing the headwork and throwing some cams in it will allow alot better flow.. and when i drive like a civilized human being i have a feeling thats going to free up some MPG's and some good power.. DOA claims 33hp from the heads and 12-18 from the cams so 45- 52hp for about 700 bucks plus whatever its going to be to put the heads back together. If the 3.0 was a turd you wouldn't see em with 200k+ on them.. ya know? I know everyone is an advocate of the 3.4 and I agree its a far superior engine to that of the 3.0.. I'm not going to be putting huge tires on it.. and if i do decide to build it into something disgusting i'll save the money up and do a 1uz swap...

2 other things i forgot to mention in my previous post.. a freshly re built 3.0 will outlast an already used 3.4.. that who the hell knows what it endured when it was in its previous truck or how well it was maintained. Anther thing is i wonder where all this extra power that you gain from going DOA kicks in? because if it makes all of its power at like 4800RPM... it will be worthless... just some extra food for thought.. Once again fellas i'd appreciate any kinds of wisdom you may throw my way! and not to mention say if i do build this motor up a little and get practical and respectable gains it could help out my fellow yotatech-ers that are stuck in a similar situation..

maybe, but with the 3.4 if you want more power there is plenty of room for improvement. What about adding a suppercharger? some of these motors come factory with them. Its an easier motor to upgrade and get better results from considering you're starting with a motor that has a higher base hp and tq. I went the route of a rebuilt 3.0 on my truck, 20,000 later hg goes. So i went the route of a rebuilt motor and really wished i went the route of a 3.4 sooner. i got my whole 3.4 done for 2100 most and the cheapest rebuilt 3.0 i could find was 1899. i would personally go the 3.4, but its your rig and i'm just sharing my experience.

Very much doubt a rebuilt 3.0 will outlast a used 3.4. You might get X0 000K out of the rebuild, but the 3.4 seems to go on forever. I cannot recall someone having any major issues with their 3.4. It doesn't end there though, DOA has a really horrible reputation for failing to stand behind anything they sell. Once, you've paid, they seem to believe their commitment to you is over. This pattern is repeated over, and over, and over again. i would stongly caution you to do some more reading on DOA dissatisfaction, 3.0 head gaskets, 3.4 reliability etc.
