Dashpot problem on 22RE??

I have a 1994 Pickup, 4x4, manual, 22RE. It has been idling fine until it got really cold. The engine warms up just fine, but here lately the ideal has been sticking at different RPM's. If I tap the throttle it idles down fine but as soon as I ease into the throttle it sticks at around 2000 RPM' or in that area or less. If I tap the throttle again it eases back down. I sprayed a little lube on the dashpot and it worked fine for a few days but then the problem returned. Could this be the dashpot sticking? If so can it be taken apart and cleaned or where do I get a new one? Or is the dashpot not the problem?

Thanks all, Phil

I had a similar issue as you are experiencing, I tried to clean and lubricate it up and it still caused issues. I just eventually replaced mine and fixed the problem. I got mine at the bone yard. Dealer, Toyota parts online dealer or the online stores may have one.

I've always understood to NOT use lube on carburetor / throttle body parts. Apparently, too much of a dirt magnet. When I had a similar problem (on a carbureted truck) I fixed it by carefully cleaning the external parts with paint thinner.

Is it the dashpot? This should be easy to diagnose. With the truck off, just open the throttle with your fingers, and gently let it close. Does it stick? Where?

Ok, thanks. I will try testing it as you said. Clean it real well(I agree to much lube is dirt magnet). Then look into replacement. I will keep you all updated.

Well I tested the dashpot like scope103 said and yes it is sticking about half way through the cycle of the shaft. I sprayed it with carb cleaner that seemed to help some but it may need further cleaning or replaced.
