Dash/instrument lights not working. running lights work correctly.

Hey guys,

I've had my 92 runner for a little over a year now. I bought it for a good price and had to rebuild the engine (burnt valve). Anyways, to get to the beef of this, my dash lights haven't worked since day one. I've check the fuse and jumpered the rheostat/dimmer (which blew the tail fuse and didn't make the lights work). I'm at a loss now, and would appreciate any help you can give me. I've also read about blown dash lights, but it is also my A/C lights and whatnot. Thanks in advance

Bust out the wiring diagram, DMM and test light. Probably a loose wire. Dash lights are on the same circuit as your a/c cluster..

Red face

Since they never worked it might be all the bulbs are burnt out .

Now of course the fuse will open if you tried to bypass the rheostat with the circuit energized what your doing is just taking system voltage to ground .

It then draws more current then the fuse allows.

Now since all the switch lights on the console and dash also run on the same circuit do any of these work??

Yes, all of the above. Report back and we'll go from there.

None of the console lights work. The only thing that illuminates is the check engine light, etc. Etc. I'll get the wiring diagram out. I jumped the dimmer because that is what I read would determine if I need a new dimmer or not. Thanks
