Damaged and dangling vacuum tank

Hey guys,

I noticed a knocking noise and upon inspection I found a vacuum tank (I think this is a vacuum tank) hanging out in my wheel well.

Heres some pics, If you look closely you can see a slight hole in the side.

My question is, can i just cut out the tank?

I have swapped on manual hubs and locked my front diff in place, removing the ADD.

Yikes! That's a lot of rust.

The tank provides the vacuum reserve for the ADD. You clearly can't repair that tank, so yes, you can remove it. I would trace the vacuum line back to the two ADD VSVs and cap it off. Otherwise, you have a "vacuum leak" which will make setting the idle a problem.

I'd also inspect pretty carefully around your right front wheel. The tank is unlikely to be the only thing that rusted like that.

OK thanks, I have noticed a weird drop in rpm when idling and it may be due to this tank.

There are some California salvage yards that ship parts. One is TAP if I recall right and I have never dealt with them. The California salvage trucks still have the factory paint on the parts and are like new in most cases. Might see if you could get them to ship the parts you need.
