Needing some help figuring out exactly what kind of motor I have in my 89 22re truck..
The previous owner told me he had done a motor swap with a rebuilt engine. My timing chain guide broke and wrapped around the lower timing gear. So I tore the motor down. I decided to remove the head due to a 0 reading in the#2 cylinder.. there was quite a bit of damage to the head and top of the piston from what appears to be a previous incident as all the marring was covered in carbon.. my guess, previous owner broke a valve, replacing said valve and putting it back together..
When I first bought the truck I had 140 compression in that cylinder..
I measured the diameter of all 4 cylinders and they read as follows
#1. 3.6642
#2. 3.6662
#3. 3.6625.
#4. 3.6658
The top of the piston is marked with a large #2 in the center and a smaller 1.00. The block is painted blue which someone suggested that makes it an atk motor. The serial # stamped on the engine is 1480204
My main question is.. with these measurements.. am I to assume that I have a rebuilt motor that was bored .40???
If that's true.. should I worry about rebuilding or replacing the block?? There appears to be quite a bit of play when u wiggle the piston inside the block????
The head and can are pretty much junk I believe.. the piece that has the post that attaches to the cam end to turn the upper timing chain gear also broke.. can that part be replaced. Or is it apart of the cam??
I hope those questions all make sense..
I am trying to figure out if I just replace the head... or if I rebuild and replace the whole motor.. thanks for any help/suggestions on heads or engine replacement
