94 4runner 4wd v6... loud popping sound on the front passenger side happens when making turns and hitting bumps. i put new bumpstop caps on and still no help. i can spin the driver side cv axle freely by hand but not the passenger side. all the cv boots look good still. this is a first time job for me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, I have the car off with the steering unlocked. If I go under I can spin the driver side axle only. I jacked it up and spinned both tires and didn't hear anything. Only when driving I get a loud pop from under the passenger.

ok, the diff is not going to lock with 1, the truck off and 2, w/o the TC being in 4H or 4L.

So back to square 1 again...

Does this problem occur when you are in 2WD?

And does it only occur when the steering is at full lock?

B/c the turning by hand you're doing is fruitless...

In or out of 4WD will tell me if it's a shaft/ joint problem or not. B/c there is NO torque on the shaft/ joint when the tuck is not in 4WD...

There should also be bind or crunching if you're turning a broken shaft/ joint by hand...

A smooth, bind free rotation indicates a machined tolerance to me.

The steering stoppers on these things are mounted in two different places... And that's why a turn on flat level ground might not make a noise, and a same turn on a bumpy uneven surface would...

One stopper is on the hub side and the other on the control arm side...

So suspension cycle makes a big deal here...

your ADD systems solid hubs will make the shaft not turn if the tires are on the ground. if your truck is on the ground and you can turn your CV's something is broken.
