Cutting out after warm up, 87 22re Help!
O.K. I'm sure It's possible that this problem has been coverd elsewhere, and i assure you all I have searched and searched with conflicting information, so I will explain and hope for some advice from you guys, First off its an 87 4runner with 22re, 270k miles. Now the problem..... Bad engine miss or maybe even complete cut out, but only for a split second after the engine warms up, no missing at all until engine warms up. at idle i can hear and feel a small miss, only after warm up.............How would it feel if only one cylinder was missing occasionally at 55mph. at 55mph holding throttle steady i'll get the miss every 10 -20 sec... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your describing a dead miss. It could be caused by multiple things. Below is a list of things todo as well as things it could be.
Check your compression with a gauge.
Replace all ignition hardware ( plugs, wires, ext.)
Coil could be breaking down
Fuel pump could be getting weak once hot
Cam may have a wiped lobe
Injector failing
This is just a small list...
200+ miles is a whole lot of miles. My guess things are getting tired and wore out. A rebuild is due my friend.

1quickbabydill,
I am having an identicle problem with my 1986 22R that I just rebuilt. The truck has been running awesome until a week ago. I thought it was a bad accelorator pump on the carb so I rebuilt the carb, started right up but as soon as the truck got to operating temp, as soon as I give it any gas the engine rocks violently and almost dies. I let go of the throttle and the engine smooths right out. What did you find wrong with yours?
It feels to me like a complete loss of ignition or spark, it does not feel like a fuel issue, cause I still see plenty of fuel in the sight glass on the carb. Any help??

jDean64, Mine is efi, and i did find my problem. it was a spark plug wire off at the distributor. but it was close enough at idle it was still connecting, I guess what i was calling after warmed up was maybe plug wire moving away from distributor cap under load. snapped it back on and no more miss, I had already borowed a compression tester and though why not. Results.
cylinder #1-163
#2-124
#3-162
#4-163.
changed oil and added bottle of restore. after about 500 miles or so I plan to retest.
anywho, I hope you figure it out.
