Cutting off rear U joint. Thoughts?

Hey soooo new u joints this weekend. I've done my homework and realize how stubborn they tend too be. I've seen a few posts on here mentioning cutting the old ones off with a grinder. Sounds a billion times easier too me than pounding away n such.

Anybody done this before?
All input is welcome.
Thanks!

I have a California truck and the ujoints were not hard to change even though they were almost 20 years old by hammering them out. I really don't think there is any way of grinding them out without damaging the drive shaft yokes. I would soak them for a couple of days with pb blaster and then try to hammer them out before going at it with a grinder.

I have a Canadian truck so when I park it in my igloo at night she never fully heals. Haha thanks for the advice. Probably a good idea to try knocking them out first.

I have done u-joints myself with out a press and it can be done but now I just pull the drive shaft and take it with the new u-joints to a shop and have them to do it. He charges me around $15 to do it and well worth the time and trouble it can be to get some out. Seen a few threads where a u-joint came apart when someone didn't get it installed right and usually not a pretty site when it comes apart.
