custom air filter setup

i don't know if i can pass smog with the setup now, but I passed it in september, so i got a while

anyway, went to pep boys and picked up a spectre oe air filter for 28 bucks and an extension pipe for 10 bucks, pieced it together along with other parts I had, and propped it up with an extra AC bracket...

How would an air filter affect the results in a smog test at all?

last i heard, u dont need it, cuz it only optimizes cold / hot air intake. Im not gonna pay the money to get one atm.

@ elton, i have no idea how it runs cuz its still on jack stands and i haven't finished the body repairs / radiator yet

normally without the AFM installed, it will start for a second, but wont run for more than 1 or 2 seconds...

when the motor's running, the AFM sends a signal back to the ECU to run the fuel pump. without it so much as plugged in, the fuel flow stops and the truck dies. that is unless you bypass that and do some wire splicing...

that's why everyone was commenting about it...

huh...

ok, I'll just stop while I'm ahead then...

but I think you'll run into some issues about that later on...

don't say I didn't warn you

if it was so easy as to just leave the AFM out, I wouldn't have went through hell and back for my setup...

im sure that ill run into problems, but logically, it shouldn't matter whether its in or not. However, from previous problems i have encountered, many of the fixes do not seem all that logical....

oh well

Yeah you need the AFM, it tells the computer how much fuel to add along with some other sensors, when mine went out the truck woundnt start, it would just crank. If its running then something wierd is going on!!

Dude, no need for coolant. It won't overheat with that setup. I don't understand why other people don't run it like that....

coolant, oil, hell fuel too, you don't need any of that mess, why should you need an AFM?
