I have checked every hose connection, and repalced the larger of the hoses, but now that i have the engine in the truck i will have an antifreeze leak, not while it is running, but after it sits for many hours. I will park it at night, and even after abotu 2-3 hours after it sits it is dry, but when i go to thetruck in the morning for work i see a puddle under it, probably about 8 inches in diamater. I can see it is falling from the IFS Crossmember, but i cannot trace it down for the life of me. I know it isnt old antifreeze stored in some nook and cranny because the old fluid was orange, now it is green fluid. I tightened the bolts holding the water pipes to the timing cover, but I am at a loss? Any ideas?

if it's a 3vze the thermostate is on the bottom of the motor, this might be your culprit?

I had a leak between the head and intake on my 22re. Right near the thermostat housing, but it was the intake gasket that failed. Might want to check places like that.

yeah, so many places it could leak from; H2O pump (gasket or weep hole), t-stat housing, rad (or cap, or hose), freeze plug, head gaket, intake gasket... just to name a few...

I'm willing to bet it's the weep hole on the H2O pump myself from the way you're describing it's leaking habbits. When it's starts leaking, it's a sign you need to replace the H2O pump. When it does leak, it'll run down the block far away from the H2O pump itself, so it's hard to track down unless you look right at it. The tell-tail sign is usually a little tail-like discoloment leading down away from the hole where the water has been flowing out.

Why don't you just leave it parked for a full day and keep checking it every hour or so. Get in there with a flashlight and trace it back. Why did you have the engine out, head gasket? Somebody said the thermostat is on the bottom on the motor on the 3.0, I don't remember it being that way??? The waterpump does sound likely to me too.

Oh, another thought. How is the level after it leaks? Maybe you just have it overfilled? ...although it will usually leak the overflow out while its hot not while cooling down...

It is a 22re, i will check the intake gasket, i could see a spot like that. It has to be drippnig off the intake, because i have no drips from the oil pan or anything to show a path the coolant is taking. I will see how much i am empty when i get back from vacation on Tuesday.

while you're checking around the intake, check the 2 little coolant lines running to the idle control valve under the throttle body too... forgot to mention those earlier...

I checked those little hoses and they were fine.

there are a few small coolant lines attached to the intake mani. on my truck some of the fittings have rusted away. maybe this could be your problem aswell

22Re check hoses near the firewall if it hasn't been mentioned. Loose clamp = leak.

I had the same kind of problem, but mine was a simple fix with a new radiator cap and some of that powered sealant that is easily found at your local auto parts store.
