Soooo i went out night wheelin to test my new running lights (work great) and im drivin down the trail and out of no where the rpm's go crazy bouncing up and down then the truck dies. so i fire it back up the rpm's still freakin out so i just tac it up and try to keep it running i got outta there and as soon as i got on the road it was fine anybody know what my problem could be? i checked all the plug wires thinking they might not be getting a good connection and they were all fine. The upside is my yota got me outta there!

So you are saying as you are hitting all the little bumps on teh dirt road the RPMs are all over the place and the engine is matching what the Tach is saying or is the engine running fine and just the gauge is all over the place?

I would first check everything you did when you put the lights in. Check yours grounds, check your fuses, check the positive terminal and all components from it. Judging by your name you have an 88 is that with the 22R or the 3vz? If its the 3vz, make sure the ECU is still plugged in. Don't know if when you were installing the lights what you may have pulled on or bumped but my guess its in the area of where you were working. If you have a meter, I would check that you power to each point till it shows none and then go from there. Hope that gives you a spot to start.

Where did you install the light connections into the wiring?
