Have a 92 Runner, 3.0 V6. 12 mpg, no codes, running great. what the heck, is this normal, or is this crappy mileage?

thats not good it sounds like you might need a good tune up thats horrible im getting 19 to 20 with my 3.0 v6 with the automatic trans and my trans is almost out i have no reverse

well... I have the SAME truck and I've been getting about the same.
It depends on the driving and where you're going EX; Flatland= good milage/ Hills= Bad.
i got stuck with the hills.
It's tough nuts, but she kills on the trails.

Also your driving STYLE can affect it. try driving slower, dont accelerate so fast, slow down prior to applying brakes and apply brakes sooner. and yes, a good tune-up/oil change/ diff and tranny flush should help.

A new air filter, fuel filter, and O2 sensor might help too.

Give us more to go on here... Factors that may affect mpg:

• large tires (especially without regearing)
• lifts (more air resistance)
• bad alignment--> excessive toe-in (any funny tire wear?)
• plugged catalytic converter
• junk in the trunk (toolboxes etc)
• winter gasoline blend (inherantly seems to be less economic)
• dirty throttle body

I've been fairly conservative with my driving, i've got stock size tires, except for they are wider, and more aggresive. i'm going to adjust my timing, and put new plugs and wires in. just give it a good tune up. but i'm still surprised at this horrible mileage.

I'm usually pretty careful about my driving and I have the 3.slow with 33x12.50's, auto, and lift and before I do any calculations to make up for the difference in the trip odometer I get about 12 city.

I can get up to 21mpg on the hwy in the summer. In the winter I lose 3-4mpg (yeah its bad!).... Defantly something up. I have a big lift and nice wide tires (but I have re-geared)... Defantly has higher rolling resistance. If I threw a set of a/t's my mileage would go up....

Auto tranny or manual? Miles on the vehicle? Have you ever replaced the O2 sensor? Check for vacuum leaks (don't necessarily show up as a miss) with propane/MAPP gas torch (UNLIT!!!) around the lines while idling. If it idles up, you've found a leak.
