I have replaced rod bearings without removing the engine. Is it at all possible to remove the Crank?

Yeah, but you'll have to pull the engine probably...Gotta get the windage tray as well as the pan out, then all the rod bolts. It MIGHT be possible to do it with all pulling it, but man, I can't imagine the trouble of that.

I have my 3VZE pulled and I was thinking about taking just the crank out to fix a blown rod, but I have to do all the rings so...

I can get the windage tray and pan out no problem. I have done that to replace rod bearings.

You can do it without pulling the engine, search the forums.
Ive read of atleast one person doing it.
But he said that with the time he wasted under the truck he could have done it significantly faster by pulling the engine..

You can, but you have to pull the tranny at least back. The rear main seal is a single piece unit that has to be unbolted from the back, under the fly wheel.

So you have to--
1. remove tranny
2. remove oil pan
3. revove clutch and fly wheel
4. Remove Rear main seal
5. remove con-rods caps
6. remove main caps

Unless you remove the Head, you won't be able to remove the pistons.

as said above, it can be done. But I don't think its going to save you any time in the long run. Plus its going to involve a higher chance of damaging/dropping parts, extra swearing, getting lots of dirt in your eyes, oil all over the driveway/garage, and a neck cramp from all the creeper work. The dirt in the eyes thing would be enough to make me pull it.

For sure. Pullin the engine is the way to go. Personally I'd rather pull 2 engines than change 1 set of bearings with it in the truck.

You are all doing a good job of talking me out of it, but I don't have anyway to pull it unless I buy a hoist and a stand too I suppose.

I spun a rod, replaced the rod bearings and now the rod that spun the bearing is slightly knocking after 300 miles.

Harbor Freight. You can get both for around 200 bucks.

It sounds to me like you're ready to rebuild that whole engine. If you do the same thing again, it's just going to do the same thing, again. Do it right or you're going to be in this same boat in another 300 Mi.

Speaking of which I sell engines and kits. Keep that in mind.

In most parts of this country it is possible to rent a cherry picker .

I have also seen engine stands unless you think you will be using these things a lot why buy.

I have both that have been sitting for years.

I sure would not want to put a fresh turned crank into one of these vehicles from underneath. I would screw it up or drop it on my head.

Get some help pull the engine go from there

Go to harbor freight, find one of the chain hoists. They're cheap. I pulled an engine with one.
Check craigslist for a cheap engine stand..
Use it once, sell it again on craigslist.
