Hot wire the CSI and blow some gas into the manifold. According to the FSM test section for the CSI you can do a three second burst with no danger to the CSI.

Mine would not start for beans until I did that. Something to do with a missing signal.

Check for spark as its cranking, if not follow the FSM trouble shooting section.

ignore all the other post. you need to start somewhere not just random jumping this and that. we need to figure out if you have spark while cranking. simple test. if thats all good, next check for fuel. another simple test. figure out which we dont have, maybe its both and go from there. dont just guess

like toyotech said. frustrating to watch people try EVERYTHING that they are told. while noone is given you bad information, there are simple, preliminary tests you can do, like taking a wire off of a plug and holding it close to a bolt and checking spark.

toyotech, haha didn't think i would ever see another 559er on here lol

and FSM roughly translates to Factory Service Manual. pick one up at your local chain autoparts store (Haynes/ Chilton) or get a good one from toyota. The others are ok but can leave you cursing because they are often broad in their coverage of vehicles/motors

the info they are giving are correct but like you said, we need to figure simple things 1st before jumping the gun.

there are a few 559 guys on here. im on marlin site as well but dont post much. its must nicer here and i dont do the extreme sas crawlers like those marlin guys do so i dont fit in too well with my IFS which i love!!

Ok so I checked for spark and it is ther and I am getting gas cause I smell it after cranking for a little while, but now I think the timing is not right...it will puff white smoke out of the intake tube and pop and carry on out the tube...is my track right or have I been derailled?

geez, that does sound like the Dist is 180 out. Firing the spark plug with the intake valve open. it would not blow flames like a '60's muscle would due to the long intake system.

yep... sounds like you have timing issues. check the distributer and timing belt. remember the rotor should point to the number 1 cylinder when the crankshaft pulley is on 0. you could also be 1 notch off on the distributer. The 3vz is picky with the timing. Silly question but are your spark plug wires on all the way and in the correct order?
