cracked 22re block?
ok, so..i replaced the head gasket on my 22re and i sent in my head to get it milled and pressure checked and everything came back good so i put it all together with all the right torque specs-i started it up and white smoke out of the exaust pipe, so then i checked where the water warms up the throttle body and placed a new seal and then there was water in the oil- the water is coming in on the third cylinder (which was where the head gasket was originally blown)-- my only guess is that either the head gasket didnt seal right (which i can see it being -new head gasket with a milled head should have sealed right), the engine block is cracked, or another place where water can reach the third cylinder maybe through the intake manifold somewhere-i know those blocks are impossible to crack but that is the only thing i really can think of?

Timing cover maybe , if it is worn through you may not be able to see it with your naked eye but it will leak oil into the water making it seem like the head gasket is blown also.

the timing chain guides are new and the chain is tight, but i think that the water is coming through the third cylinder somewhere because i take out the spark plug and run the motor and water will shoot out? i did check the compression and it was 125 psi in the cylinder

ive got a question aswell. i just puy a new head gasket on and still smoke. i was wondering if carb and intake manifold could be causing this. any help here would be awesome thanks ppl

When I bought my 4Runner it had a cracked block. It was in the very back on the water jacket around the cylinder. Almost impossible to see, but there was a faint coolant residue. The guy who built my new motor said it was the second one he had ever seen.

so what mine was was a warped block, i talked to a guy that fixes a lot of 22re and was told that 9 out of 10 times it is just a warped head but you will sometimes get a warped block- if the head is flat and the block is flat there should not be any white smoke coming out

Im thinking a cracked intake manifold will shoot coolant with the gas into the cylinders hence white smoke. Has anyone ever seen this or heard of a toyota manifold cracking?

There is a coolant passage near the intake runner to #3 cylinder (and #2 as well) which passes into the intake manifold and out to the heater core. If the intake gasket there is compromised, coolant can enter the #3 cylinder (and possibly #2).
