Coolant temperature gauge linearity mod?

Everyone knows that the temperature gauge (when it works) will go right to some middle range and stay there during normal temperature operation. The engine has to heat up a good bit more before the gauge needle continues to climb upwards.

I saw this thread about removing this "feature" for 80-series landcruisers:

The 80-series uses a totally different board layout, but the components look the same: a Zener diode and a 75 ohm resistor. Has anyone tried this mod yet? I know we have a few hackers around here. I may give it a shot on my cluster the next time I pull it out.
