coolant temp sensor from hell

So yesterday I decided to replace my coolant temp sensor because my gauge was not working. I tried to get it with the intake plentum on and broke another sensor plus lost the old sensor into the engine/transmission abyss. The parts store got me the wrong sensor 3 times and finally had to hit up a junk yard and found not only what I needed but a few extra goodies as well. Went ahead and pulled the intake plentum to find a TON of crusty vacuum hoses that broke in the process. Got it all back together and fired ot up and didn't replace the gasket and it was pouring out coolant (fml). On the bright side the coolant gauge is working :-) now to do it all over again today. Yay.

Yeah, working on 15+ year old vehicles is fun isn't it. I've been putting off some things on my old taurus because I know it will be a huge can of worms just to change the spark plug wires. I'll probably end up with a whole new engine when its done.

Experienced gained yesterday, speeds up the re-do today.

I finally finished changing all the vacuum hoses on my rig...they were crispy and several had hairline cracks. I always hold my breath when pulling a electrical connector apart since they are crispy too.

i changed the ecu temp sesor in my 22re recently went to the auto parts store got the sensor. back to the shop drained the oil (doing a oil change at the same time. pulled the old sensor threw it in the dumpster put the new one in i swear i put less than 10lbs of tq on it and it snapped in half, so i had to go find where the keys were for another vehicle at the shop. ended up taking the old plow truck they wouldn't warren tee it saying i over tq'ed it the only other one they had in stock was the most expensive brand so i buy it go back to the shop this time i put it in finger tight, finished changing the oil topped off with coolant started the motor and then just kept snugging and checking just until it stopped leaking, so far so good about 500 miles of driving sense then.

finally finished a few hours ago. got it all buttoned up and runs like a champ (working temp gauge and all)! Just need to put a couple miles on it and recheck all the bolts and hoses. The PCV hose was as hard as concrete and I need a new one but had to plug the intake plentum for now. Hopefully I dont have to yank the whole thing off again to put that back on (however by now I almost consider myself a 3vze intake plentum expert)...:-\ R&R this time was only about 45 min for the whole thing
