Coolant entering motor other than HG?

Ok so I put my hand over my exhaust today and noticed that I was getting a lot of water droplets on it. I also have an odd miss at 2k+ rpm that I can not figure out. Now this all points to a coolant leak into the motor. I do not believe it is the HG. Is it possible for coolant in enter through the intake manifold? The problem started out as a slight miss intermittently and not under load. It is now to the point that it stumbles hard under load ie driving or when parked. It does not seem to happen when below 2k rpm or before the engine temp has been raised ever so slightly.

This is on an 86 4runner 22re

Common byproducts of burning fuel are CO2 and H2O. Water droplets, if they are in fact water, are normal, and more likely with a rich fuel mix than a lean one. Cold engines tend to emit 'steam' out of the tail pipe (though more often in cold temps) as well more than warm ones. Ambient temps also play a part in this when the outside temp is colder than the engine temps- more steam or water drops out the pipe when it's colder outside.

This help?

(probably not with the misfire, but may explain the drops)

so when cold it rev's up smoothly, and the misfire happens when the engine warms up?

sounds like a bad pattern on a fuel injector: when cold, the ecu opens the injectors up a bit like the choke on a carb causes a rich mixture. as the engine warms, the ecu tightens up the injector pulses and leans the mix. can't rule out an out-of-range coolant temp sensor but more likely is an injector with a slightly poor spray pattern.

don't quote me though... antifreeze always leaves a sticky feel on my hand, not a smooth, slick feel.

then again, my 22re has a misfire if I rev it up in neutral but is smooth when driving.

Timing cover can get worn and not be seen by the naked eye and cause the anti freeze to leak into the oil and make it look like a blown head gasket don't ask how I know.

well got the intake manifold all the way off.....

cyl 1 dry, cyl 2 wet and quite a bit of carbon build up, 3 dry, 4 dry

looks like the cheap rock gasket that came with my long block failed in several spots but it was only leaking in to the motor on cyl 2

definitely getting oem gaskets now

btw I'm also getting the injectors flow matched, relocating the fuel filter, cleaning the egr, rewiring the starter, rewiring the fuse box (wire is made of 3 splices lol) and found out I did not plug in the vacuum actuator thingy.

Any thing else I should do while in there?
