Converter lockup switch (for the auto guys)
Here is the thing. I started driving my auto 4runner and I am liking it except....... The damn converter lockup points. I wish it would not backshift to 3rd when I start putting a load on it but instead unlock the converter and give 4th a shot first.
I am thinking about putting a switch inline to the lockup solinoid so that I can control it. Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts?

I'm not an expert on this but I believe the ECT switch does something like that....Changes the shift points and something with the converter lock-up as well. I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you more....

To solve a problem if my tranny was slipping or the torque converter wasn't holding lockup, I cut the wire going to the torque converter lockup solenoid. Found out it was the torque converter, so I had it rebuilt by a guy who rebuilds them for drag cars and mud bog racers, he made it "bullet proof". The wires for the shift solenoids and TC lockup enter the tranny on the driver side. I think the lockup solenoid wire is the black one.

I believe all of these trans shift like this and this is normal. Stupid but normal. I think I will give it a try and see what happens.
