I'm needing a new ignition switch and looking at Amazon, they have two Beck Arnley switches that will fit my 94 3.0 4runner. One states that it is Japan built and it is $20 cheaper than the one that doesn't say anything about build. Is the Japan built part referring to the part itself, or where the vehicle was built? My truck's VIN says it was built at Hino TMJ, which would indicate its Japanese. Problem is, the picture of the Japan built unit shows a different connector setup. I know pictures aren't always accurate though. Hoping someone can shed some light on this. Worst comes to worst, its Amazon and they won't hassle about a return, but I'd rather get it right the first time.

And the plot thickens over at Napa's site. Two listed, one for US emissions and one that says Japan built. Pictures show slightly different connectors. Never would have thought this would be so hard...

Part numbers would have been a help.

Are you talking about the the electrical switch or the key cylinder?? lots of people interchange the two.

Looking at Napa I see where if your Toyota was built to be imported to the USA and sold it needs to meet our emission standards.

If your vehicle was bought else where and brought into the USA by the owner it would be the Japan built switch.

If your not sure which yours is go to the dealer with your vin in hand and hope yur parts people are as good as mine.

You need whichever one has a connector that matches yours. So all you really need to do to be sure is take a look at the connector on yours. It should be plenty obvious(without even disconnecting it) which type it is.

Does it look like:

ECH KS6386(Japan Built), BECK/ARNLEY part # 2012056(Japan Built), OEM part # 84450-35120


or

ECH KS6395(w/ US Emissions), BECK/ARNLEY part # 2011570(USA Built), OEM part # 84450-35080


BTW, yes, there are two different OEM part numbers as well. And, yes, they are specific to vehicles built in different countries(Japan Plant or North American Plant). In either case though, the vehicles were intended for sale in the US market(whether built in a JPP and imported for sale in the US, or built in a NAP and sold in the US).

84450-35080 is for vehicles built in North America(NAP) and sold in the US.
84450-35120 is for vehicles built in Japan(JPP) and imported for sale in the US.

From what I understand, the first letter in your vin will tell you if it was built in Japan. If its a J, then it was built in Japan.

Yup, went and pulled the panel off down there and it looks like the Japan built one. Thanks for the good pictures. Some sites have two listed that look almost identical from the small picture, so it was just adding to the confusion.
