Confused with electrical problem with alt replacement, 89 22r
New member, sup everybody.
I've had an 89 and 92 22r and 22re for the past 15 years and mostly they've been problem-free. The 89 has a puzzling problem, it's a 22r carbureted. Brake and charge light came on and wouldn't stop coming on. I changed alternator, take it in, tests bad. I get a reman replacement and put it in. Lights go off for about 100 miles. Then lights start to come back on solid, I test it with the truck running and it's testing at 12.7 volts.
All the fuses afaik look ok, i was reading something about a charge light relay, but they were talking about pre-89 and i haven't found anything else about it. So, a few miles after getting it tested a few days ago, and since then, the brake and charge lights will never turn on, even on key entry into the ignition.
I assumed it was a fuse but all the engine bay fuses look fine. Any suggestions? Both charge and brake lights stopped working/went out at the same time as far as i know.

Check Charge fuse?
If you're reading 13.5 to 14.5 V alt voltage, you have normal condition. Under normal conditions, there should be 12V at both sides of fuse measured from ground.
To force a fault condition for testing purpose, disconnect IG (red wire) from alternator. (To do that you would have to remove connector pin.) This wud cause zero alt output (B), and charge light to come on.
Pls see my sig. Link explains alternator pinouts and what to measure at each.
Under fault condition. when Alt output (B) is 12.7 for extended length of time, chareg fuse goes low. For fault condition, a better voltage measurement would be measure with + (red) probe on batt + and - (black) probe on charge fuse. Under fault condition, you should get 12V.
... charge light relay, but they were talking about pre-89 and i haven't found anything else about it.
