Afer spending 8/9 hours in the 4runner wheeling on sunday..It became apparent that these stock seats aren't going to cut it. They're fine for short trips, but being in the truck for extended time is hell with those seats. What seats have people swapped in that are comfier than the stockers? I loved the seats in my 98 Chevy 1500 but they're pretty wide and doubt I could cram them in...Just looking for ideas on cars to keep an eye out for on my next junkyard run..

My friend has some Mazda 6 seats in his 88 P/U.

I've got some Acura Integra seats in the '82 and they are nice but they are very firm and get annoying on long trips too. Just so ya know not to do that.

I have bucket seats in mine that look like they came from another yota. I'm looking to swap them out for a bench seat. I just need to find them in my area.

Bucket seats are hurting my back. I have a bad case of sciatica and I cant sit in them for long periods of time.

I just dumped the split bench in my truck because it hurt my back after 6 hours of driving. I installed a set of bucket seats from a 91 toyota pickup with driver side lumbar support. I love them and they are basically a bolt in deal.

Other seats that would fit are buckets from a Mazda Miata. I have a set of those in my suzuki samurai and really like them.

Suzuki guys tend to like installing early to mid 90's Dodge Neon seats in their samurais.

Nissan pathfinder/hardbody seats would fit also. I liked them pretty well in my hardbody, but I think the good toyota buckets are more comfortable than those.

the old mitsubishi raiders had driver side suspension seats in them, those might be nice if you could find them and adapt them to your rig.

My pickup has buckets out of an '95 4Runner and they are livable but, the seats in my '97 4Runner are VERY comfy and have adjustable lumbar support.
Perhaps you can find some of those, I have no idea if they are direct bolt-in.

I put a set of 88 thunderbird turbo coupe seats in my old 86 Toyota p/u. They had the adjustable lumbar & the air bladder for your lower back. Now a days there are many nicer seats out there though. Go to the pick a part & take a look around.

I have the 60/40 split bench in my truck and I love it! I dunno why but they are probably the most comfortable seat I have ever sat in. The only downside is their lack of side to side support, but long distance wise I've never had any aches or pains. My dad's Pontiac vibe buckets and my mom's mini cooper seats pale in comparison.

Perhaps just swap in a set of SR5 seats? Mine have the limbar thingy and the little knob that you can turn to make the seat more narrow, it's like a jump seat when you tighten it down. I've driven on several long trips and wheeled all dayt a couple of times and love the seats. That and it'll probably be easier to swap in a Toy seat (i.e. fewer mods) than something else.

I have the SR5 buckets in mine with the lumbar and side bolster adjustments. I love em. I had an extra set from a junker I was cannibalizing and made an office chair out of one of them.

If you put in SR5 seats, you will be pleased, but not all SR5 seats are the same, and the older they are the more worn out they will be. My 84's are still good, but the left outer driver's butt cushion is worn out from sliding in and out that I am thinking of having it reupholstered to bring it back to life.
I say that all SR5 seats are not the same just from my previous experiences. Definitely get the adjustable ones, but I think the one's out of 2nd generation 4runners are the best. However, the passenger side doesn't slide as far forward as the passenger seat in a 1st gen 4runner, but its not that big of an issue.

I gotta agree with everyone that has suggested the SR5 seats. the seats in my '92 are GREAT. its got adjustable lumbar support, and adjustable side bolstering support. which means on the trails, you can crank the seats nice and tight so it hugs you and there is little side to side movement in the seat. and for daily driving i dont have it so cranked. also the headrest has like 5 different ratcheting locations, so on long road trips you can get it just right.

Just got back from hitting up a few junkyards. Got some turn signal covers but thats it. Theres an all Toyota JY in Phoenix that I went to that has an 89 Yota PU, the seats in it were NICE. They're not the factory seats, even the parts guy didn't know what they were out of but knew they aren't stock. They want $100 for the pair which I thought was pretty reasonable. I'm heading back on Saturday, hopefully they're still there, because I want those seats!

If you can, get a set of SR5 buckets. You will need to modify two of the mounts (slightly). They are VERY comfy
