cold starting issues...

So this has been an ongoing issue for a few years, I have just plugged in and kept the block warm. Until its spring and Im getting sick of it.

its a 1991 toyota truck with a 22re with 275,000 miles. I have replaced the alt since it was broken, all lines off the battery, found shorts and fixed them, rebuilt fuel system, replaced coil and inj mod, coolant temp sensor, cold start timer switch, and the distributor.

Problem: battery drains over night I haven't checked the starter yet but that is coming out today. It cannot start cold but only with a topped off battery and a warm block. Also there is no spark. Im getting annoyed by this since I cannot go any place without a plug. Im getting to the point of selling it and just saying to hell with it after putting up with this crap.

Could a failed knock sensor do it? since the block heater is close to it.

I have a similar issue. My 86 4x4 pickup has a REALLY hard time getting started if its less then 70deg outside. Not sure where to start. I am new to Toyotas, and trying to sort it out.

Sounds like you may have what I have, and an electrical system issue?

I think I may start with the fuel filter, then the choke. I'll let you know how it goes, and see if that helps.

Cold start time switch and coolant temp sensor connectors swaped?

Cold Start injector faulty?

Valve clearnace too tight?

Fuel smell?

Lack of fuel vaporization?
-Improper grade of fuel?
-Fuel age excessive?
-Rich running condition?
-Intake manifold gasket leaking?
-Poor intake manifold design....

If its a no spark condition...
- Faulty Distributor and or components?
- Spark plugs incorrectly gapped?
- Timing incorrect?
- Distributor Pick-up coil?

Mine is carb. not injected. No Fuel smell. I'll check the Cold start time switch and coolant temp sensor connectors. The gas I have in it is 91 at 5k ft operation. I looked at the spark plugs and it looks like they are running hot, so maybe too lean?

As soon as I have more info. I'll post it.

Thanks for the help.

Hey there, I fixed the issue (I think).

I adjusted the Fast Idle Screw. The one that controls the idol before the engine warms up.

Time will tell if this truly solved the issue.
