Code 71 after throttle body cleaning

Hello

had no problem with code 71 untill i cleaned the throttle body....the check engine light only comes on on the highway.i did the vacuum suck on the egr valve and the engine wants to die, does that mean that the egr valve is working? AND THE ENGINE ALSO PINGS JUST BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE TURNS ON..

Let me know

thanks

The FSM says it's an EGR Gas Temp Sensor code. Either a bad EGR Gas Temp sensor, a bad connection to it, or the EGR isn't working. To check EGR operation, make sure the iron egr pipe leading into the plenum is hot when motor at op temp & rpm at 2500. Also you can pull the vacuum tube to egr valve (when motor at op temp & rpm at 2500) and check for vacuum on the tube with your finger. If no vacuum, could be bad egr vsv, modulator (or maybe clogged modulator filter - try cleaning with compressed air per fsm), or maybe vacuum tubes got misrouted at some point. If there is vacuum but egr tube not hot, probably either clogged tube(s) or clogged/bad egr valve.

Assuming 22RE:

If not what he said try this. I pulled the code from generic list in fsm and found this with google. http://www.aa1car.com/library/air_temp_sensors.htm Its not a 22re specific explanation but may lead you to other solutions if sb5walker's post doesn't fix it. It could be TPS if you didn't remove it when cleaning throttle body, cleaner can get to tps circuits and cause short. gl
