Did a search, but couldn't find any good info. Just installed a new clutch kit today. Had trouble taking the transmission out because the crossmember is welded to the frame, but once I unbolted the transmission mount, it was easier to get it out, but had to fumble with it to get the angle right. Truck is almost two feet off the ground, and am having a really hard time getting the transmission back in because of the angle. The bellhousing hits the pressure plate and there is not enough clearance around the back of the tranny. I tried tie-down straps and a jack, and i even tried physically getting under the tranny and still couldn't get the angle right. Are there any tricks other than moving the engine forward that I'm missing? Thanx.

Figured it out. Just had to turn it clockwise (looking at front) and then counterclockwise while getting it up in the tunnel. Worked like a charm. Got everything put back together and the clutch works great.

I have about 1/2" to go and I just CANNOT get the trans all the way in. I've tried bench-pressing and using a jack too. Since it's only 1/2 inch out I can't imagine that the splines are not engaged yet I seem to be able to pivot the trans left and right (not so much up and down)...which probably means I'm bending something

Yeah, I think I gain 50 lbs of muscle trying to figure out how to mount the trans.

If the bell housing is only 1/2" away from mating with the block I would guess the splines are in but the input shaft has not aligned and engaged with the pilot bearing. Either keep wiggling it and maybe you'll get lucky, or maybe you didn't center the friction disk perfectly on the flywheel.

Thanks, I have the same suspicion. As tired as I was last night, I think it's just the angle that I couldn't get right...I hope I don't have to pull the whole trans again! lol
