Cleaning pistons...ideas?
So before i put my pistons back in...of course i have to do the pin bushings and bearings and rings...i know to use part of the old rings to clean the ring bases...but what about the side of the piston...theres pretty much carbon built up around the entire circumference on almost all of them... in between the rings and down to the oil rings. plus the tops of course...how should i clean the sides? let alone the top?

use an old ring to clean out the ring grooves
for the top, I know you can use a scotchbright pad, but I'm not sure about using that on the sides
DON'T USE A SCAPER OR FLAT-EDGE RAZOR THOUGH, THAT'S A NO-NO FOR SURE!!!
I didn't even bother during my rebuild... for the price, I just put in new ones from engnbldr

yeah, i was trying to use brake cleaner and rags...but thats just wasted time....my bud said to get some diesel gas and soak the piston heads in that for a while...would that work?
