Chrome grill and bumper

Does anyone know if a chrome bumper/grill combo were offered on a 1991 pickup 4x4?

uh, yeah

wait, FULL chrome, or just the outter edge of the grill, like mine? I don't think I've seen a FULL chrome one

btw, after almost 19 years, I consider the chrome on this truck to be more of a "brushed aluminum" look, lol

if I'm not mistake, the valance NEVER came chrome from the factory; that's an aftermarket add-on, which I've seen a lot on eBay

but paint thinner on the grill? is that black paint REALLY over chrome?

why in the hell would Toyota do that???

I had a mitsubishi mighty max before this 4runner. That also came with black paint over a partially chromed grille. I noticed it being painted, when some rocks hit my grille. Some chrome was showing and I decided to remove the paint. The paint thinner doesn't affect the chrome, but it does affect the plastic. Only the front half of the grille has chrome.

I've been told that a few manufactures do this just to emphasize their brand logo.

If you try it, be careful. I want to say all original grilles with half chrome are completely chrome, but I do not know for sure!

I have seen alot the windshield trim pieces with the black flaking off, with chrome sitting underneath.

Maybe they painted it so everyone knew it would get them home??

maybe they KNEW their trucks were going to last 20+ years, and they wanted them to have a fresh begining after the paint started flaking off

"Hey your paints peeling..."

"Nah, the chrome is just growing"

Don't know about the windshield trim, but re: the hidden chrome on grilles. . . . . . it may be cheaper / easier manufacturing-wise to chrome the whole grille, then just paint out everything but the logo and edges. That would explain.

I thought I might dress the truck up a bit with some chrome since its going in for a new paint job soon.
The truck is kinda bland with the bumper in body color and the grill black.

I'll have to try the paint thinner trick on the grill and see if chrome peeks its head out.

Thanks for the pics guys. Now I have a better idea of what it might look like if I switch it out.
