Chevrolet Step Side Build Up Thread
Hey guys!
As some of you know I built a built a step side bed for a previously owned Toyota of mine. The bed was scratch built using only the Chevrolet fenders. I have seen numerous post on this site asking about transforming a stock Chevy step side over to a Toyota. So here it is. I'm going to put together a build thread of how to do it. This will not be a one week project. It may take awhile as I work everyday but Sunday.
So here goes:
Today I traded for a 84 Chevrolet step side bed. This bed is in really good shape considering its age and location. (WestVirginia) this bed was built to fit a Full Size pickup. So in order to make it fit it must be cut down and welded back together. The fenders, bed sides, header panel, and tailgate must all be cut down in size.
Sounds hard Right.
Well it's not.. These bed are only bolted together. So disassembling one is really easy and can be done is less then 1 hour. Then you measure twice and cut once. Once it's all cut you piece it back together.
Tools Needed:
Basic wrenches and sockets
Grinder with wire brush & cutting wheels
Chalk line
Sharpie
Welder
SawSaw
Tape measure
Clamps
Maybe a few other things
I will include accurate measurements along with some drawings to help everyone out. I do not have any pics of the bed yet however here is a pic of the one I made a few years back.
Please be Patient with me as this may take awhile to complete.
Once finished this bed will bolt onto a 84-95 Toyota pickup.
