hi everyone. i know there has to be alot of guys out there like me. i have a 2" lift on my 87 truck via bj spacers and blocks, and my rear shocks were limiting my rear flex. i am still in high school making minimum wage part time so i dont quite have the money for bilstiens or anything like that. i work at napa so i checked our charts to find some shocks, the stock shocks are about 13.6" compressed and 21.6" extended. i found some that bolt up and are 15.1" compressed and 24.6" extended. they are heavy duty shocks and have a 2 year 200,000 mile warranty. im not sure how much they cost the average joe but i got mine at employee discount for under 60$ for a pair. it would help if you know a napa employee to get a discount. but here is the part number if anyone is interested 66860. i run them and they work great. hope to be a help!

It would have been much cheaper to make shock mount extensions if your old shocks were still in good condition.

well if you look on my build thread my old shocks were rusted pretty bad and they were gettin pretty bouncy

You went from (21.6-13.6) 8" travel to (24.6-15.1) 9.5", but gave up 1.5"(15.1-13.6) of compression to get another 1.5" of drop..

What does it measure between the shock mounts with the bump stops touching?

Well I guess I can wrap my head around extensions. Might not of been any cheaper if you had to source steel.

i have 2" blocks so i couldnt compress my shocks all the way anyways. sorry if i didnt specify. andill get a year make model tomorrow if i remember i think they are box truck shocks or school bus shocks

cool. do some research and look up front shocks. i know people are running suzuki samurai front shocks or ford bronco fronts with the ball joint spacers. just curious what you can come up with. im always up for cheap mods that are great improvements

i belive i checked out the fronts before and couldnt find any. and if i remember right the bronco ones were a bad idea but ill check as soon as i can

those rear shocks are for a 91-96 ford la8000 front shocks, or a 85-89 international 1853 school bus fronts. part number 66860

i did find that 91 samuri front shocks will work for extended front shocks, they are slightly longer. they are the same mounts except the bottom hole is slightly narrower but they would work. the part number for those is 94039.

i also found that bronco shocks are too long compressed for my liking, but they will bolt up. i would be affraid to crush them.

what are the numbers for stock toyota fronts, compressed and extended... and for the bronco fronts? just wondering if the bronco fronts would work with ball joint spacers

stock toyota fronts are 9.25 compressed and 13.625 extended
samuris are 9.625 compressed and 15.375 extended
bronco shocks are 11.5 compressed and 18.375 extended

i personally think bronco shocks are a bad idea

bj spacers dont move your compression bumpstops or your shock mounts therefore your compression length still is the same.
