Hey just picked up another beater to give me some time to fix my other rig up. Its a stock 88 4Runner sr5 with an ASSLOAD of miles. It had a top end rebuild about 30k miles ago and it runs fine, but the idle is never the same. Its a steady idle, but every time I stop at a light or in a parking lot it just picks a new place to idle. Sometimes it idles at 500rpm, sometimes at 1500rpm and anywhere in between. It doesn't lope around or drop off or start racing suddenly, if you leave it idling for a long time it will still stay at the same idle, but the second I drive anywhere, next time I stop it will be at a different idle speed. I can't figure it out and while it doesn't seem like a problem, it bugs me and I want to get to the bottom of it. Any clues what could be worn out, or a sensor of some sort thats causing this?

22re aye?? well check the vac lines and around the brake booster and does it do it when its in neutral not driving??

it just does it in neutral, like when I'm parked or stopped at a traffic light etc. I think a vacuum line would cause it to jump all around wouldn't it? I had a problem with that in my first yoder with a 22RE but that was obvious. This is different because it stays steady but it still shouldn't change like that

then if you like try this short the ecm!!! in the dis box though just look up how to get base timing and see if it changes if she goes down to around 550rpms and the check engine light blinks then your good if not then your TPS is out of wack if your good then take a flat head driver to the thing and show it whos boss!!! (flat head to the screw on the LEFT side of the TB just before the butterfly) spin it untill you like what you see

and check the check valve on the brake booster vac line its right at the top snapped to the firewall it should alow vac out but i think it might be going both ways giving you more air then it thinks too ok im done now lol

Also, it may sound strange; but check the idle adjustment screw on top of your TB. Some have been known to back themselves out or turn themselves after the truck has been driving around. It doesn't happen that much, but a friends 1st Gen. 4Runner does it and he has to tape down the screw to keep it from moving.
