Ok...I know this might be common knowledge because I can't find any write ups, but does anyone have a good write up on how to change the drive belts? My A/C belt failed, so I bought all the replacements for all of them.

Anyway I have a FSM, but I find writeups more informative.

If none, any tips or gotchas for making this easier....especially putting on the right tension on the belts. I tend to over tighten.

On the 22RE you'd do the following, I doubt the belts are different in the 3VZE: Remove skid plate and the fan belt from the crank pulley, by loosening the tensioner. Then loosen the AC and install the new one. Its not very complicated.

Its easier to remove the skid plate and work from below.

Its not super hard to replace drive belts. Just go out there....and do it.

Online writeups are not going to make it any easier.

Haha, that's what I was thinking. If I remember correctly, no bolts/nuts are even removed, just loosened...

ok..ok...I know it's an easy job.I've done alot of work on my truck and sometimes it's the easiest jobs that give me the most problems....(e.g can't access a bolt or get it off)

So, what's the issue? I'm assuming you've at least looked at the setup and figured out how you need to attack it, right?

You need a 14mm tool of your choice. Or pliars. Hell, even teeth would work if you have a long pointy ant-eater-like head. Trust me, this is not a difficult job.

yeah the belts are super easy. and the belts DO fit around the fan (3vz) (no need to take it off) ...(unsure on the ac belt as my truck doesnt have ac)

I was suprised when i didnt see a tensioner on my 92, but the PS and Alt loosen off and you set the tension that way

Iv never changed the drive belts before.. have little experience but im sure I can do it just need to know where to find the tensioner pulley. I cant find any pictures online or a diagram of which one it is.. so ill just post up what I think it might be. crack on me all you want haha but iv just never changed them. Still have the stock ones on there and one or more is sqeeling like crazy now. Also dont have the manuel for my 4runner. thanx.

I had to pull my fan off to replace my pwr. steering belt on my 3.0L.

I was able to get my Power steering pump, A/C and alt belt around the fan on my 3vze. Just took a little time...

Hey Stive2699 - ITs quite easy to find the tensioners. Just look for a bracket that has a moon shaped groove in it, this grove will have a bolt head located somwhere in it. Loosen this and you can adjust.

And a tip, try to buy toyota belts. I have found aftermarkets are just not as good. My damn powersteering pump is adjusted as far as it can go
