it is safe but not recommended...ESPECIALLY in cali..cops will be allll over you...if u dont put a pipe in between the pipes where the cat was..then it will be LOUD...i have an '80 with no cat...no muffler, no nothing...just a header...then it dumps right under the driverside door..its LOUD AS HELL!!!!..so watch out...im in oklahoma.....nobody here cares how loud our vehicles are..lol

depending on the year of the truck you shouldnt have any problems, the absolute worst IMHO that can happen is that the O2 sensor after the cat. (if so equiped) can read the air coming through the exhaust as too rich or too lean with it not being either and could throw the check engine light and it would be posable to richen up the mixture enough to fuel wash the cylinders (not very likily) or choke it down and make it run lean......i personally wouldnt have any problem running it without... there are tons of these trucks running around my rural farm town without.........

Safe for you? No, it could kill you. Safe for the truck? Yes, as long as you don't die while driving and crash.
