Can't Clear Codes

I swapped AFMs yesterday trying to determine once and for all if mine original is working.

There were no codes prior to me doing the swap.

I drove the replacement all day today, checked codes, and got a 24 and 31 - Airflow sensor and Air Temperature sensor.

So I swapped back in my old VAMF and tried to clear the codes. The problem is - I can't.

I pulled the EFI relay (the same one I always pull to clear codes) for 15 minutes, and when I jumper the DIAG afterward, I get 24 and 21.

I pulled the battery for 60 seconds, and the codes clear.

You may find this of interest:http: http://autoshop101.com/forms/h27.pdf

So, is the real question "why didn't the codes clear by removing the relay?"? I mean, you apparently were able to by removing the battery.

Look closely at the diagram on pg.10 in the link and maybe this will help clear things up. You'll see the 15amp fuse is the battery feed to the ECU "keep alive memory".....not the relay. Not sure how you ever cleared the codes before simply by removing the relay.

Wow. So I flubbed that one. A slight case of vapor lock in the frontal lobes of my brain.

I don't know why I got it in my head that pulling the EFI relay was the one to pull.

Some days...

Thanks.
