So I finally got my Knock Sensor taken care of, and now within a few weeks of eachother, I blew two(2) coolant hoses. the first one was a 1/2" hose right underneith the throttle body and now second one is at the back of the motor between the firewall and the Manifold. it's a small 1/2" hose, "U" shaped and right next to what looks to be a temperature sender. Very difcult to get to, can you tell me the trick to replacing it??? Maybe a very long pair of needle nose pliers. what trick do you have up your sleeve???

Cold, old rubber hoses are very stiff. I have had success removing hoses by first warming them up with a heat gun (you might be better off with a hair dryer. It doesn't take a lot of heat, so if you use a heat gun put your hand on the hose as you do it. If it's too hot for your hand, you're over-doing it.)

I think these http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...mString=search are what wabbit is referring too. I understand that they are just for wrestling the clamp off, not pulling the hose itself, but he knows what he's doing.

REMOVE YOUR HOOD. It will make the job a ton easier & only takes 2 minutes.

I never removed my hood, but those pliers have always worked for me.
Removing the hood might make it easier to get to, but for me, it was quicker to just crawl in there and do it.... A bigger guy wouldnt have much fun contorting ones self in there tho, so keep that in mind...

I eneded up getting the 12" long nose pliers with 20 degree angle from HArbor Freight. I was going to remove the hood, but didn't. should have... either way, it was too painfull, but still a PITA. purchased new hose from Auto Zone, it was not an exact match, but it did work pretty well. Only bad part, the new hose was slightly larger on the OD and the stock clamps would not fit over the flange head on the tube. well, it's tight, but I will need to go back later and install a new clamp. no leaks though. thanks for the input guys...

No clamps...not an exact match hose...? Anyway...since you're going back in there again, if I were you I'd go grab the hose from the stealership. Then you can reuse the stock clamps. That setup lasted 18 years right? Why mess with success? Unless you want to be going back in there to replace it again sooner than after another ~18 years?

The part # is 16267-65011, it's called No. 3 Water By-Pass Hose. It's ~$10, and it's one of the few parts on my truck I might consider showing my face at the stealership for. If I absolutely had to. If I didn't, I'd still be getting the part shipped to me. Because I consider the price of shipping a fair trade in comparison to being caught dead in such a place, literally.
