Can i swap a 91 4runner v6 into a 93 4x4 ??

hey guys, new here. Im good with working on engines and whatnot but i really only mess with import cars. i did a skyline rb25det into my 90 nissan 240sx... anyway this project is for my dad heres the scoop.

hes got a 93 pickup with a motor with a blown headgasket that was ran for quite awhile by previous owner. truck is in great shape minus motor. what he wanted me to do is swap the motor (v6 automater) out of his rusted out 91 4runner (v6 auto) into the pickup...

i guess all i really need to know is if its possible? i figure im going to use the wiring and tranny from the pickup and just move the motor over. im pretty much as far now as getting the automatic transmission seperated from the engine but im stuck here... not sure what to do as really all i have EVER worked on is 2wd manual trannys. thanks for any help guys i really could use it cause i need to get this project done ASAP

sure it's possible, but you might want to double check your laws; in some states, it's illegal to put an engine in the vehicle that's older than the vehicle itself

of caurse that may not matter if it's the same engine, I dunno; that law doesn't apply to Florida, so I've never had to deal with it, lol

welcome to the forums

Save yourself some trouble and go with the 22RE engine. Such a reliable engine. Mine has 244K and counting!

putting a 22re in your trucn would be a pita. stick with the 3.0 its not that bad of a motor. Im not sure but I think there are a few things your going to have to change...not sur eon which ones tho, they changed the wiring harness sometime in 92, so you might have to switch some things over ( I think knock sensor is one of tme) But im not sure, im sure some one will chime in soon.

The starter isnt that bad you just have to be patient.. go in through the passenger side wheel well. There is a little panel that can be removed to get to it easier. One bolt goes in from the back, the other goes in from the front. I used a long extension for the front bolt so that my ratchet was up by the idler arm.

you can get to the lower starter bolt from the front of the engine with a long extension.top bolt from behind the starter

do not waste your time removing the exhaust in the the truck remove the exhaust manifolds when the engine is out . just disconnect it from the down pipe part on the drivers side and pull the whole engine out.

the shield for the torque converter is a small piece maybe 3" x 8".. look closely its there at the bottom of the bell housing ..

dont forget the cold start injector and reed valve hose when pulling the upper intake off to disconnect the wiring.

good luck .. i know thats a fun engine to pull..

oohh you will have to use some of the 93 stuff to put on the 91 engine

distributor and wires
injectors
rear top sensors (just swap over all of them along with the aluminum housing its only two 12mm bolts)

at least this was the case from a 1988 3.0 to a 1992 3.0.

and i believe the change happened in 1992
