Can anyone tell me what this is?

Didn't notice a lot of stupid stuff when i bought this truck, now I'm stuck fixing it all.

Investigated a rear end noise last night, and came across this (Top left of picture). It looks like part of my brake line, but it's being held up by a shoe lace.

What is it, and where is it actually supposed to mount to so i can fix it?|

Update, someone told me It's a Load Sensing Proportioning Valve. But i still can't figure out where it mounts to. It also looks like the rod going from it to the other side is bent

The piece tied up by string attaches to the axle. You can remove it and put in manual one.

It senses how much the rear springs are compressed (by a load in the bed) and will send more or less breaking power to the rear wheels. But yours is held up, so its sending the maximum amount of power to the rear breaks all the time.

it bolts to the 2 bolts just above the panhard bar. If you had bigger springs put in or were not getting enough rear braking, you would do this "mod".

That would explain a lot, because the previous owner put in OME 901 coils in the rear to fit 33's

So basically if i leave it mounted to the axle, I won't get proper rear braking because there isn't enough pressure due to the lifted springs, correct?

Also, is there anything bad about having it mounted up that high? I messed with it when i found it and my brake pedal got quite a bit stiffer.

Obviously I'd make a proper mount for it

If that black hose goes to the rear diff it should have a breather on the end so water doesn't get in. Unless of course it's stuffed with a shoelace...

Yeah you don't want to cut that off. I have a pickup so im not familiar with 4runners but the square bracket that is bolted to the arm looks like its a 2in bracket for that lift (because its a 2in lift correct?) Like cobolt23 said, just bolt it to the 2 bolts by the panhard bar. It'll put that proportioning valve back in the stock position and you will have much better braking.

I took the black hose off this morning. It wasn't stuffed ith a shoelace, but it was stuffed with newspaper. There used to be a breather on it but i broke it off accidentally a while back. Still a breather on the diff though.

Thanks for all the info, you guys are the best.
