What tools would be required to change out a alternator on a 95 22re? My tool kit is at my friends house a hour away (I helped him change a starter on his 7.3 powerstroke, parts store gave him wrong starter and did not have one in stock. So i left my tools with him to finish up what i had started) so i was thinking of going to the parts store and just buying the tools i need so i can get i changed asap. So i was wondering if someone could be so kind as to list what exactly i would tools i would need.

i cant tell you for sure, but a 10,12,14,17,19 will do just about everything on these trucks.

if i had to throw out a random guess i'd say 17

12, 13 and 14 should about do it (and maybe a 10)
and a pry bar to help get tension on the v-belt.

I think:
14mm socket 14mm box wrench unbolting alt
12mm or 10mm socket and 3" extension for the hot wire to alt
think that's it

or are you just being 'overly specific'?

so you can't use the 14mm socket to loosen the same fastener you would use the 14mm box wrench on?
or are you specifically referring to the bolt through the lower pivot of the alternator?

guys thanks hopefully i can get her running tommorow. sucks when i have 10g's in tools back on the east coast, and all my tools out here are a hour and a half away. Perfect timing lol. At least my optima red top got me 7 miles to my house.

Where are you at? your welcome to use my garage lol - I have a full rolling cabinet full of tools.

Got her running today a buddy came by with some tools so it took all of 20 minutes. It would have been 10 if the lower coolant hose wasnt in the way. Thanks for the offer montana, im a few hours north of san fran.
