Camshaft and Gear question.

I hope one of you can answer this for me. I'll try to explain it as clearly as possible. I'm trying to confirm that my cam gears are installed properly. When adjusting the timing, if I turn the gears to far left or right they will free spin on me. The driverside cam free spins itself into alignment, but the passenger side cam reaches alignment between the point of spinning with me either left or right. Is this normal.

i'm guessing its the 3vze V6.

i don't quite understand what you're saying...

the 3vz cams are held "in place" on the camshaft with a small dowel pin.

Oh ok, well I was worried that maybe the gears were put on at the wrong angle, but can they only go on one way?

Yes that is normal for them to spin that way. You can put them on wrong. The drivers side gear should have the lip on the outer edge and the passenger gear edge lip should be towards the head.

The drivers side one will line up and sit on the timing marks and the passengers side you have to use a wrench to hold in place to get the belt on because there is some valve spring preasure that will want to make it spin until you get the belt on. Once you get it on you pull your pin from your tensioner and then you rotate the engine clockwise 2 revolutions and make sure all your timing marks line up. If they don't line up you have to loosen everything back up & redo it. You might be a tooth off. Back in an hour. yes I'm a girl.
