Cam drive gear...

Hello I just put a timing set on my 1987 4runner 22RE, everything went fine and chain is at 0* on bottom and the dimple is at 11:55 on top. put everything back together and now the dist is all the way and is at 7* no room to get it lower. so I did some research and found out I was missing my camshaft thrust plate (the washer that goes between the gear and drive gear for the dist.) looked at the other 22re and it has a longer gear on it about 1/16". the space the camshaft thrust plate would take up I think, but also does not have a camshaft thrust plate. I ordered the camshaft thrust plate today. I think the extra space will make up a lot on the gears and give me my room to play on the dist.
I guess what my question is how do the drive gears line up with the dist shaft? right over the top square or off a little twords the cam? I can't find info on that.
Thanks.

here is a pic to show you

I should also note this is a new head, so nothing taken off to displace timing gears.

I just found this pic online. does the cam shaft gear line up over the top of the dist shaft in the middle? or is it off a bit. just want to know how far off mine is. like say measure from the top timing chain gear to the end of the crankshaft gear.

This is what should be there

If that plate was missing then it could move the timing

Yes, thanks for the response. I ordered the camshaft thrust plate it was missing (the washer/spacer that the older 22R engines use an eccentric in place of.)
My question is where does the cam drive gear sit over the dist shaft as I have 2 cam drive gears of different lengths 1/16th" different. That is the reason I asked about the measurement.
thanks

Thank you so much, helps more then you could know. will put it all back together with the proper cam drive after this weekend part will be in sat, but wife wants a VD weekend so.....and follow up on my timing. didn't want to put the wrong one in and screw things up with the gears or who knows what. still wondering why I have 2 diff length cam drive gears.
Anyway thank you for taking the time to help me out. I'm new to the 22re's but kinda addicted now, these things are amazing. trying to talk the wife into letting me get a Dolphin RV now too. a 22r small RV with a crapper would rock.

I'm rambling on now.. thanks ehatch.

Installed camshaft thrust plate now timing is at 5* with lots of room to play. Thanks for the help. Still wondering why I have 2 diff length dist drive gears... took some pics to show.

Looks like one eliminated the thrust plate. Newer 22re vs older?

Not sure, was told the extra engine I have is a 86 with 395k on it, and the wear on it looks like it.
