A/C conversion: what will fit?

So my junkyard sells the whole AC system for $130. Seems worth it even assuming I'll need new parts to get it to actually work. So what years are compatible with my '87 carbureted pickup?

Just go with factory A/C. Rock Auto sells NEW factory compressors from DENSO.

I think he's looking for ALL the parts ... compressor, condensor, evaporator, air box ...

You will always need to replace the drier, and almost certainly the Expansion valve. You'll need to flush out each component; no telling what's inside (could be parts of a disintegrated compressor) Also, you're not going to charge it with R12 (WAY too expensive), but since you're reassembling all the parts using the right o-rings is a snap, so R134a is the way to go.

Good luck!

84-88 should work just fine for you. The 89-95 might work but not sure on that.

You would be a popular and worshipped man if you would do a tech thread on how you do it. I've still got all the parts in a box in the garage.

Here is a thread that will help with the Evaporator https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...trucks-286766/

There is two dimples in the fire wall that the lines that poke thru for the Evaporator. Use a coned drill bit for better results but at the time I had some old wood drill bits that I wont be using and was available.

Inside the cab floor board there is another dimple that is for the drain hole for the Evaporator that needs to be drilled.

You will need to add Condenser and Compressor pump. I am slowly gathering things to add to my trucks and when I get them gathered up, I will create a thread on installing an AC system.

ADDED to show how to get the cover and heater control switch out. This thread can be used to do other things https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/

The dimples are easily seen when you look at your firewall. ( I am sure the tool I used is not Toyota approved, but it worked, lol)

Do you mean all the parts new for $500? Or do you mean ripped out of an old truck? If it's ripped out, I'll just do it myself so I know where everything goes. I want to do this, but I'm afraid. Do I have to tear out the whole dash for this?

You don't have to take out the whole dash to do it. Getting AC plug into the control might take a little work but it shouldn't be to bad. Just remove the cover, undo the screws that hold the heater controls in.

In my previous post under the ADDED it will show how to access the heater control to add the AC Button.

I agree with you. $500 is not a lot. I'm definitely interested. Please PM me or post the information. Your "brother" is not a Nigerian prince that I'll have to wire money to, is he?
