A/C compressor location?

I have a 89 toyota pickup 4 wheel drive with the 3.0. When i bought it the guy told me the ac just needed recharged with freon so i have thought sense it was summer time i should get that done but when i tried to find the compressor which is where the recharge valve should be i cant find it? Inside the cab it has the added ac button which lights up when clicked but no difference in the temperature. Is it possible that the compressor was removed and never replace? Or where is the compressor actually located at? i could really appreciate the help, thanks!

The line that's closest to the hood surface is the low pressure line. Some valves have a blue cap indicating low side. As far as the type of refrigerant, it depends on whether the system has been retrofitted to r134a. U can tell if it has either by a sticker under the hood somewhere saying so, or looking at the Schrader valves. When retrofitted, a bigger valve is screwed onto the existing valve so to speak. My advice would be to have the system checked by an a/c shop for leaks. There is a reason why the system is low. Most likely a leak....
