buying a new motor from oregon engine rebuilders
i buying a new 22re motor from oregon engine rebuilders, but im not sure if i should go with the stock motor or spring for the works. is the extra money for the new head and rv cam worth it? this is a daily driver that i would also like to drive on long trips, and do some off roading. has anyone put one of these in their trucks, how is the power on the highway?

i just recently bought an oregon superstock engine. Very good to work with. Hard to tell if it has anymore pep or not because i had low compression with one cylinder on my old engine. more power than i had before but No power compared to my good truck a Duramax 2500. i am very satisfied with the oregon engine. They have answered all of the questions i have asked so far. Fired right up after the swap, just had to readjust the idle and set the timing. Not using any oil. i am running 31-10.50 r15 tires, runs seventy easy. everything in the truck is stock. Getting around 17 mpg with the engine right now. they suggest changin the egr valve adn the throttle position sensor and i didnt do either. i did replace the oxygen sensor, pcv valve from toyota, and checked the back pressure of my exhaust. Hope this helps. Also changed the thermostat while it was very easy to get to.

Interesting. Its been a mixed review with these guys. If you get a good motor, well of course there is nothing but good. But there has been a couple people that have needed to send there motor back in, and have experienced bad things with them.
Look through all of the reviews before you drop the cash. Thats why they are here. Its good when folks like Uplandretriever post the good experiences so you can get both sides of the coin.

My son purchased & installed one of OER engine's last August. Went with the "Super Stock" version with the new head and RV cam. As with Upland retriever, it is hard to compare the before and after on engine performance. His old engine had a blown head gasket and had low compression on 2 cylinders. He has about 5000 mile son the engine. It is performing well. He added a fresh air intake and a header from LC Engineering, and a new exhaust. Old exhaust was shot.
We are very pleased with the engine so far. He is getting approx 20 to 23 mpg now. It cruises on the freeway at 70 with ease. Has good torque to pass without downshifting to 4th. I was skeptical about the new head and rv cam, but I would give the combo high praise. I think the upgrade is definately a good choice.
In my opion, it appears that the new head / rv cam upgrade is very similiar to the new head and rv cam that enginebuilder.com sells. Since these guys are basically in the same town, it makes sense. Again, just my 0.02 cents worth.
