buttons on 1990 auto shifter console What do they do?

Truck is a 1990 4x4 Auto trans 3VZe motor, w/ manual locking hubs.

What are the buttons for on my shifter console for? There re 2 of them. one at the top and one at the bottom.

the top is labled as "Shift Lock Override" (need to knwo what this is used for and what it does

The bottom is labled as ETC mode on and off. What is this used for, and what does it do?

Thanks for your help guys.

The shift lock overide lets you shift out of park if lets say your truck is off and you cant turn the key on.

The ETC is the transmission control. When on it shifts later and maybe firmer, like for towing or hills...

Perhaps if your engine breaks down and you need to move the truck, you can put it in N and push it or tow it..

The auto tranny won't let you do that.

I thought it was so you could shift gears without stepping on the brake - i.e. rocking.

Yes, that's it. You do not need to push the brake while pushing the over ride button.
