The first time I burped my engine (1988 pickup, 22RE) I was surprised to see coolant spilling from the radiator onto the pavement of my street. So, I thought I might make a simple reservoir bottle which would accomodate the fluid displaced by expanding air bubbles in the system. Photo attached. Rather primitive, I must say. It is built from the following items, starting at the bottom: 3/4" tapered stopper, a rifle cartridge case (.30-'06), wornout radiator cap, 3/8" ID clear plastic tubing, nut, bolt. and 2 washers (1/2-13 x 1-1/2"), an empty, wide-mouth juice bottle, and an old shoe string.

Drilled 3/8" hole into base of case
Radiator cap: removed the pressure relief guts, leaving a hole big enough to accomodate the body of the case.
1/2" bolt: turn off about half inch of threads to diameter 13/32". drill thru 5/16" diameter.
Drilled 1/2" hole in bottle cap
Cut off bottom of bottle. punched hole for shoe string hanger.

Assembly should be self explanatory. The radiator cap holds the stopper in the neck of the radiator. The string ties the whole gizmo to the hood latch.

Run the engine until overflow stops.

Maybe it's overkill, but it works.

Yes that does help. Getting the front up on jack stands also helps.

You basically created a low buck version of the Lisle No Spill Funnel
The 24680 kit has an extension to get the funnel up higher that what the picture shows. I purchased one and never needed it, until I purchased my truck with the 22RE.
