Broken "inner axle" shaft at front diff!

Im sure its in here but i havent had any luck finding it. This past Sunday i managed to snap the axle on my 86 four runners front diff, on the right side. Not the CV, the "axle" it bolts to going in my diff. It snapped clean with the housing. Ive broken CV's before, but not this. So my question is, does anyone on here know where i can get info on fixing this? Has anyone been there & done this repair? Can i just install anouther axle in the housing? And if so whats involved? Any help with this will be great...Thank you

Ive done this, did it break in the splines right inside the diff ? the parts called like a stub shaft im pretty sure and you CAN get another.

If I can remember right you need to open the front dif (remove the member) and undo the c clip thats at the end of the shaft then you can free the broken bit and install the new one.

I still have the end chunk of mine from the last time I bombed it, about a 2 inch chunk where it stuck in the diff after breaking off.

Makes an excellent paper weight!

besides the details thats pretty much it remove front third remove c clip free broken stub. Actually if you push it in I dont even think you have to take the c clip off but i cant remember.

Might check if the diff still rotates smoothly, that's a lot of shock load. You may be able to buy a 4.10 on the cheap, and just use the shaft. Better yet, find one with a broken R&P.

Should be easy as cake to find a cheap as dirt used one but if you can't for some reason or want new, 41304‑35020 is the PN, it's like $95

Thanks for the P/N Beaniam. Going to call salvage/junk yards in next few day's. Im looking for 86 to 88 four runner or truck correct? I know the body style's changed after 88. But not to sure about axles. Cause older Toys are hard to find sometimes. Around where i live, if any vehicle is older than an 02 its getting crushed... (a real shame sometimes)

Actually, I think you can use any IFS diff parts from 86-95. I'm pretty sure that inner axles would be the same. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. There's a member on yotatech called Zuk who would know for sure.

The passenger side axle stub on any 86-95 ifs truck will work, even if it's off an add truck.

It does happen but rarely. I think the previous post about it being due to shock load is correct. Have you done anything special to that axle that would make you want to hold onto it? You can get a stock replacement for about the cost of that piece and just keep your old one for spare parts..

Thanks for all the info guys. I called one place Wed & they have 2 1994 four runners. So now that i know the shaft will work id better be getting them out. I assume the CV's are the same too. Cause if so i'll grab the CV for that side also. Not to sure of condition of old one as of now & might need one. And the post you gave 881stGenRunner. That is exacly what mine did. And the info there was great. And as far as info on my frontend, 5:29 gears & Lockright. (Got the axle breakage on vid . But the part with frontend going air born is kind kool , lol. Will post it on here soon! Thanks again...

Amen on the manual hubs brother. And on breaking both CVs at once. Crazy! What ever you were doing when that happened?
