Brand new 22re?
Not looking for one but ran across this place http://www.japanengine.com/products/...e=%200&pID=133 It says everything is brand new,not rebuilt. New block even. Since when did anyone start making new engines that haven't been made in almost 15 years?

It looks like they have a rating of F on the BBB.org site. So new block I doubt it. And if it is new it probably wasn't made by Toyota so I wouldn't want it.

it says they come with a 1 year warranty. it does seem kinda shady, but for that price i could afford to give them a call and make sure i know every detail about that engine. their ebay feedback looks pretty good too.

It's new internals, not a new block. They bore out the block and put in new oversiezed bearings and pistions.
Some have good luck and some have not...kind of like rolling the dice.

Toyota does sell a brand new short block and new cylinder head casting. Got that in my truck. But is going to be more than $1000. Something like $1600 for short block and $600 for head casting.
Truck sure runs VERY nice though. Even co-worker commented how smooth the engine was, and he didn't know it was new. Better than any rebuild except maybe done by a machine shop that actually machine to spec. Good luck finding one of those.

Here is a web page on what I did for the new engine. You can see the spreadsheet for the total cost. About $3k. Could probably have been cheaper using some more aftermarket parts. But wanted the engine to last for a long time. Would have gotten the engbldr new head casting for cheaper if I were to do over again. And make sure to check oil pressure before running!

Wow. Benmlee what did Toyota do about the short block. Did they replace it for you or did you just drill out the oil passage. That sucks to go through all that work to get it done the way you want it and then have to tare it all down again.

Toyota exchanged the short block that had a blocked oil passage way for another one. They stonewalled on reimbursing me for gaskets, parts or labor to replace the engine. Eventually, they agreed to about $200 or so after many phone calls. I was surprised about Toyota's response. Thought they were a fair company. Their customer service was definitely not up to what they were know for.
