Brake line leak ...

Brake line leak ...

The brake line line is leaking above the frame , I can see the drips coming down the frame right behind the passenger door (regular cab). What is the best way to get to this and fix it ? I had to replace the fuel pump holder a few months back and i just raised the bed but don't know if i can see this line that way or not....any tips or ideas ?

im not gonna recommend anything other than either buying and bending your own, or buying pre bent from the dealer. even though i dont recommend anything else, i had the same problem and cut the line on both sides of the line and used compression unions to replace the failed portion of the line with new line. it is only a quick fix to get BOTH my rear brakes on the road again. it has been perfect for a while now, but NOT RECOMMEND.

Didn't he say the leak was under the cab, in which case it would be a rubber line? Whatever the case, hose all that DOT 3 off your rig when you are done

Don't ever use compression fittings on brake lines. It's stupid, it shouldn't even be legal to sell them! Flaring the ends of the lines and using a proper union is not difficult and is safe. I recommend just chopping the line on either side where you can acess it, flare the ends and run a new piece.

I had to replace both lines going to the rear of my 4Runner. They tend to get rusty inside the frame clips and they failed on me in more than one place so I didn't screw around just replaced them both (custom bent lines opbviously). Actually replacing the lines with pre-bent must be pretty hard because those lines snake to some pretty damn inaccessible places.

like i said, NOT RECOMMENDED. i used compression unions because i was in a pinch on the trail. however they have held for a year with no leaks. at the very least, flare the ends. much stronger.

Your best bet is replacing the entire line from front to back with a new one, either from the dealer or one you bend yourself.

Splicing a line isn't much cheaper and is only a band-aid solution.
