i bought a used tranny with 120,000 miles on it. no leaks anywhere, no play in the input shaft, or in the flanges where the driveshafts connect to. but, when i put it in gear and turn the input shaft or flanges, its kinda noisy. is this bad? i paid $400 for the tranny, transfer case, and front and rear driveshafts. checked the tranny oil it was clean and fine. checked the transfer case oil which was low. any opinions? is this noise im hearing a bad thing? maybe the bearings are dried from the tranny setting up for a while?

what kinda tranny is it? and it should make some noise, lots of moving gear on gear action. as long as there are no clunks or clings etc or when you turn it or hard spots it should be fine.

With no oil in it, it should make a little noise. It will go away once you get some lube in there.
