Bought an '86 - How'd I do?
Hello Yotatech,
Been lurking here for awhile. I just bought a 1986 single cab pickup with carbureted 22r 2wd. I was looking for something to haul my street bike to the track. After hearing about these engines I was fascinated with the legendary status of the 22r/re engines...so i had to have one. Plus old trucks look bad ass.
I'll post pix when i'm home, here are the cliff notes. I paid $2700 for the truck. How did I do?:
-174,000 original miles on body and engine
-original white paint in pretty darn good shape
-new michelin radial tires
-came with a service receipt noting recent carb rebuild, valve adjustment & distributor cap, new spark plugs. service was done 3000 miles ago.
- 4-speed, 2wd, AC blows cold, standard bed
- CD player with USB & Auxiliary
Unfortunately I wasn't given the service records until after I bought the truck. The receipt noted #4 cylinder compression of only 100 ( all others 170-175psi ) Not sure if the valve adjustment took care of this. The service was done 3000 miles ago. Hoping I got a good one. I don't want to be digging into engine rebuilds just yet. I haven't re-done a compression test yet.
I've driven it about 200 miles. drives great and hasn't left me stranded or overheated.
I plan to keep this thing for awhile. I'd like to eventually put new seats in. But I want to make sure its Mechanically solid before I throw any money for that.
Any suggestions on what I should check for?
Thanks & see you guys around
